Luisa was born on 26 August 2008 in Colmar. She was a beautiful, healthy baby. There were no signs of illness. A beautiful, happy childhood awaited her and she was promised a fulfilled life, much to her parents’ delight.
Her first 9 months passed without any problems.
Everything changed on Sunday 18 May 2009: She was diagnosed with herpetic encephalitis (a major form of meningitis), which causes necrosis of the brain and frequent seizures (about 10 a day). As a result, she lost all motor skills and her memory.
So her parents decided to set up an association called “Les amis de Luisa” (Friends of Luisa)
The association is a charity for multiply disabled children in the GRAND BALLON region
The aim of “Les amis de Luisa” is to collect donations, organise events in favour of multiply disabled children and organise mutual aid and actions in their favour (accompanying them on outings, childcare, etc.).
Luisa’s parents and friends are part of our volunteer group at the Trails du Grand Ballon. During the event, they support you – runners – with all sorts of things.
We are proud that thanks to the Trail du Grand Ballon Luisa suddenly has at least 2500 new “friends” who all donate at least 1 euro to this wonderful charity. Everyone is of course free to donate even more !
